Psalm-singing to encourage churches and honour the Lord Jesus Christ

Saturday 25th January 2025

10am to 4pm

Emmanuel Church, North London

Join your voice to that of Jesus Christ as we sing the psalms. Experience the unity of the Spirit and the encouragement of God’s Word as we sing the psalms together.

The Holy Spirit has given us the psalms to sing. In them we hear the voice of Jesus, who invites us to sing his songs. This will be a day on why and how to sing the Psalms, with lots of singing. This is a day for everyone - whether or not you call yourself ‘musical’. We will be singing the psalms in a variety of styles. The emphasis is on enthusiastic participation rather than musical perfection. No prior knowledge of music is required; once you have booked you will be given exclusive access to a Psalm Learning Page to help you prepare. As we gather to sing the psalms you will be encouraged and emboldened by the power of the words and the strength of the singing.

This is also a day of discovering the rich Jesus-centred theology of the psalms. The psalms show us how to rejoice in Christ our Saviour and to know his comfort during seasons of lament and sorrow. As we sing the psalms the message of Christ dwells richly in us.

  • “Let the word of Christ dwell richly among you” says Colossians 3. Come along to discover how the psalms help us connect with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Christians have always turned to the psalms to learn how to pray. As we sing the psalms we pray together as the church, in union with the church across the centuries.

  • Our voices are given that we may glorify God and declare his praises. Come and learn how we might improve our sung worship.

10am to 4pm, with coffee served from 9.30am

There will be regular breaks through the day. Please bring your own packed lunch. We suggest a donation of £10 per adult but if this is too much please feel free to make a smaller donation. Children are encouraged to attend and there is no cost for them. Please pay on the day with cash.

Emmanuel Church meets at Trinity Welsh Chapel, 29 Freston Gardens, Cockfosters, EN4 9LX. Click the address to be taken to Google Maps. For more information about travel and transport please click here.

Preparation: Once you have booked you will be sent a link to a psalm-learning page. The more you learn the music beforehand the more you will benefit from the day and we will be able to sing more psalms.
